Background and expertise

Her background spans acute paediatrics, community care, and palliative and end‑of‑life services. She has worked in high‑dependency neonatal and paediatric settings, gaining extensive experience in caring for acutely unwell and clinically complex children. This clinical foundation shapes her leadership approach, giving her a clear understanding of patient needs, frontline pressures and the importance of safe, well‑governed services.

A chartered manager with the Chartered Management Institute, Gemma also holds a Diploma in Leadership and Management and is a certified Professional Coach and Basic Life Support Instructor.

She has completed leadership development through the NHS Leadership Academy and the Institute of Leadership, using this training to invest in her teams by offering coaching, practical guidance and structured development that supports staff to grow in confidence and capability. She is committed to creating an environment where people feel valued and well-equipped, placing a strong focus on strengthening service quality through ongoing learning and professional development.
